GLAAD Condemns FX Networks for Refusing to Correct Defamatory Statement
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has condemned FX Networks’ refusal to correct a defamatory representation made by an anti-gay activist on the reality television series “30 Days,” according to a press release from Monday.
The episode in question, which airs tonight, follows a woman opposed to GLBT families who must live with two gay men and their four adopted sons. The premise of the series is to examine social issues and immerse people in lives unlike their own for the titular 30 days in order to gain a new perspective.
Human Rights Campaign Begins Marriage Equality Petition
The Human Rights Campaign has started the Million for Marriage petition in support of marriage equality in America, according to a recent press release.
The organization’s goal is to collect one million signatures and send the petition to Congress in an attempt to counter the rising anti-gay marriage dissent that has appeared following the legalization of same-sex unions in California.
Belleville to Host First Annual Gay Pride Event
The VItal Voice just got wind that barring a very unlikely "no" vote to close off the street by its City Council, Belleville will be hosting its first ever Gay Pride event on Saturday, June 21, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It will be held on 2nd street between W. Main and A street(s) outside of Club Escapade, which is located at 133 W. Main street.

Episcopal Congregation, Macy’s Declare Support for California Same-Sex Marriage Decision
An Episcopal church in California intends to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies beginning in mid-June, according to BlackChristianNews.com.
All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, one of the largest congregations in the denomination, adopted the “Resolution on Marriage Equality” following the California Supreme Court’s decision to legalize gay marriage in that state.
The Episcopal Church as a whole supports GLBT rights, but has not made an official decision to bless same-sex unions beyond exercising restraint when authorizing them, according to the Web site.
PROMO Gives State Legislature Failing Grade
PROMO has assigned the Missouri Legislature a failing grade for its efforts in effectively addressing bullying in schools around the state, according to the organization’s Web site.
The group had been pushing for the passage of the Missouri Safe Schools Act, which would require schools to create anti-bullying policies based on race, religion and sexual orientation, among other things.
Alderwoman Triplett to March in St. Louis Pride Parade
Alderwoman Kacie Starr Triplett of the 6th Ward would like to invite any who are interested to march with her in the St. Louis Pride Parade on Sunday, June 29, according to a recent press release.
Those marching with Triplett will be meeting at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday at the corner of Utah and Grand. The parade is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
Congress Conducts Hearing on Transgender Employee Discrimination
Congress is scheduled to conduct a hearing today on the issue of workplace discrimination against transgender employees, according to a recent press release from the Human Rights Campaign.
The HRC, along with a coalition of other GLBT organizations, have lent their support to the hearing, which is being led by Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass. and Rob Andrews, D-N.J. and who is also chairman of the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions of the House Education and Labor Committee.
MCCGSL Hosts Mass Commitment Ceremony
The Metropolitan Community Church of Greater St.Louis is hosting a mass commitment ceremony at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, June 28 at Tower Grove Park, according to a recent press release.
The ceremony is a tradition at St.Louis Pride, which is also taking place tomorrow and Sunday, June 29. Rev. Jeff Bert of MCCGSL will preside over the event, also according to the release.
Interested couples may register at 2:15 p.m. on-site in the park at the Stupp Center and Memorial Garden.
HRC Calls for Investigation into Case of Police Beating Transgender Woman
The Human Rights Campaign is calling for a full criminal investigation into a case of police brutality against a transgender woman, according to a news release from today.
A recently released surveillance tape out of Memphis, Tenn. shows police beating and verbally harassing Duanna Johnson while she was being restrained in the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center.
The FBI and the District’s Attorney office has reviewed the tape, and the FBI is currently investigating the possible civil rights violation, according to the release.
