Transgender Woman Pursues Federal Lawsuit Against Georgia General Assembly

The Washington Blade is reporting that Vandy Beth Glenn, a transgender woman, is pursuing a federal lawsuit against officials at the Georgia General Assembly, who, she said, wrongly fired her.

Glenn began working for the Georgia General Assembly in 2005 as a legislative editor. She was also diagnosed with gender identity disorder, which is defined as discomfort with one’s sex at birth and identification with the opposite gender, that same year.

Georgia Legislative Counsel Sewell Brumby fired Glenn in October 2007 on the grounds her transition would be immoral and inappropriate in the workplace, according to the article.

Glenn is suing the General Georgia Assembly on the basis that her firing violates the Constitution’s equal protection clause.
