Saskia Olde Wolbers (Dutch, born 1971) creates films in which her hand-built environments become the primary vehicles for expression, suggesting both the physical and metaphorical spaces between people. “Placebo” is loosely based on the life of a man who spent 18 years pretending to be a doctor for the World Health Organization in Geneva. In Wolbers’ reimagining of the story, an unnamed and unseen narrator wakes in a hospital bed after being in a car crash with her lover, Jean.

This important and evocative exhibition features a variety of drawings created after World War II by three generations of German-speaking artists. Celebrating the public and private collections of St. Louis, the display of more than 100 works represents significant moments in the careers of such key artists as Joseph Beuys, Blinky Palermo, Dieter Roth, Hanne Darboven, Arnulf Rainer, Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, Gerhard Richter, and Sigmar Polke.
This exhibition features seven offset lithographs from the Museum’s collection produced by Gerhard Richter between 1967 and 1972. The lithographs are based upon photographs of seascapes and urban architecture. Richter draws the viewer into these prints through their apparent factuality as photographic images, yet complicates attempts to read them through elements of manipulation, such as blurring and juxtaposition. Evangelical UCC in Webster Groves is an Open and Affirming church community that welcomes people of all ages, origins, and sexual orientations. We offer this alternative to Vacation Bible School as an opportunity for children to learn about Peace. Elementary age children will experience a ‘peace-filled passover’ exploring the ancient story of Moses leading his people to freedom as we make matzah (flat bread), consider the science of ‘plagues’, and practice our breathing (yoga).
